Supreme Court Allows Sandy Hook Lawsuit Against Remington

The Supreme Court declined to block the lawsuit brought by parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook School shooting against Remington the manufacturer of the Bushmaster .223 rifle used in the massacre.

The decision stems from the Connecticut Supreme Court’s March ruling to allow the parents to sue Remington for marketing a “military-style” weapon to civilians.

“Connecticut law does not permit advertisements that promote or encourage violent, criminal behavior,” the court stated. Remington argued that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) of 2005 shields gun makers legally from criminal actions committed with the manufacturer’s firearms.
