Crowdfunding

Republic is the NYC based equity crowdfunding platform who is on a mission to equalize the fundraising landscape so that more talent have the chance to build companies and create more investment opportunities for investors.

An affiliate of AngelList and CoinList, Republic recently issued their Diversity Report taking stock of their two years in business.

Republic’s crowdfunding platform also facilitates compliant investing in blockchain-enabled projects under the brand Republic Crypto.

To date, Republic has made the following achievements:

  • Raised over $10 million for 49 start-up companies
  • Successfully funded over 95% of startups on Republic
  • Improved Diversity: 25% of investments ($1.875 million) on Republic have gone to companies with underrepresented founders of color and 44% ($3.3 million) 44% have gone to companies with a female founder versus 1% and 13%, respectively, for the industry.

Highlights from the Diversity Report:

  • The gender and racial makeup of the venture capital industry is staggeringly homogeneous. A comprehensive data set of every VC organization and investor in the United States since 1990 shows that the industry has remained relatively uniform for the past 28 years. Only 8% of the investors are women. Racial minorities are also underrepresented—about 2% of VC investors are Hispanic, and fewer than 1% are black.
  • Google is getting backlash after their diversity report which actually showed their lack of diversity.

A recent Harvard Business Review study reveals the gender and racial makeup of the venture capital industry is staggeringly homogeneous.

“Republic’s crowdfunding platform allows founders to engage people who wanted to support women and African American founders and never before had a practical means to do so.” – Fatima Dicko, CEO of Jetpack
